Otis “O.B.” Davis died Oct. 26, 2009, at home in Kent, Conn., after a brief illness. He was 85.

He graduated from Kent School in 1942, returning there in 1949 to teach and coach for 55 years. Entering Princeton in June 1942, he left in October to serve in the Army as a combat company commander, with duty in France, Germany, and Austria. Later he joined the Navy Reserve as an intelligence officer.

O.B. graduated from Princeton in 1948, and then earned a master’s degree in English at Johns Hopkins.  

Not only was he a prolific writer and respected English department head, but he also was active in many civic boards including those of Kent School and Kent Library. He was warden and a vestry member of St. Andrew’s parish as well as an avid cyclist.  

Predeceased by his wife, Charlotte Cohn, he is survived by their daughters, Rebecca Davis and Alexandra DiPentima ’75 and their husbands; a son, Joshua Davis, and his wife; and four grandchildren. The class sends sympathy to them all.
