John died peacefully Oct. 21, 2009, with his children, Patrick and Caroline, by his bedside.
Born in Montreal to Katherine Kenehan Choquette and Bernard Archambault, he prepared for Princeton at the College Stanislas. He entered Princeton with the Class of 1961 but his extra secondary coursework was later credited and enabled him to graduate in 1960. John majored in Romance languages and literatures and wrote his thesis on “The French Canadian Character in Modern Literature.” He was a member of Cap and Gown and active in the Flying Club and the French Club, of which he was president for two years.
He completed a law degree at the Université de Montréal and was called to the Québec Bar in 1966. In 1973 he was appointed general counsel of TransCanada Pipelines, where he pursued a distinguished career as senior vice president. He returned to Montreal in 1980 as executive vice president of Trans Québec and Maritimes. He later served as president and chief executive officer of Great Lakes Gas Transmission in Michigan until 1994, when he returned again to Montreal.
The class extends deep sympathy to his family.
