Willard L. Johns died June 6, 2009, in Hockessin, Del.

Bill prepared for Princeton at Wyoming Seminary and Andover, where he was on the swimming and track teams and active in dramatics. At Princeton he majored in mechanical engineering, attained second-group departmental honors, and graduated with honors. He was a member of the ASME and Cloister Inn. Freshman year he roomed in Hill dormitory. Sophomore, junior, and senior years he roomed with Ernest S. Townend Jr. at 123 Little Hall.

Upon graduation Bill was employed at E.I. duPont de Nemours in Wilmington, Del., and he remained with that company until retiring in 1983. He spent the first 11 years in plant engineering and economic studies at various facilities. After that he did consulting, estimating, and design work at the central engineering office in Wilmington.

Bill was very active in his community — as a Boy Scout leader, church official, and head of his community association. His family and golf occupied his life in his retirement.

Bill is survived by his wife, Jeanette; his daughters, Marianne and Carol; and his sons, David and Stephen, to all of whom the class extends its heartfelt sympathy.
