Jim died Feb. 20, 2010, of cardiopulmonary arrest with sepsis and pneumonia after being stricken on a cruise from Los Angeles to Fort Lauderdale.

Jim was born in Kingston, Pa., and graduated from Scarsdale (N.Y.) High School. At Princeton he majored in politics, took his meals at Cloister Inn, was a member of the Bridge Club, and was captain of the rifle team that won the Ivy League and the National Collegiate Outdoor Championship.

He graduated from Penn’s Wharton School of Business in 1962. The same year, he met his future wife, Nancy, and they were married June 1, 1963. They lived in New Jersey and the South before moving to Laguna Beach, Calif., in 1971.

Jim started working in life insurance in 1962 and held several sales and management positions until 1979, when he founded Synergistic Planning Corp., administering retirement plans.

He was elected to his local school board in November 1987 and served through November 1992. Jim was president of the Laguna Beach Rotary in 1998 and interviewed prospective students for the Princeton Schools Committee for many years. His other passions included bridge, cruising, cooking, and reading. Jim’s entry in the 50th-reunion yearbook recorded his eager anticipation of our reunion.

To Nancy, their sons, Karl and Peter, and their wives, the class sends deepest sympathy.
