Fred died June 9, 2010, at his home in Beverly Hills, Fla.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., he always considered the Wyoming Valley his true home. His first 36 years were spent there. He always maintained a summer residence in nearby Dallas, Pa.

Fred received his medical training at Cornell Medical School in New York City and served as a lieutenant in the Navy Reserve Medical Corps in Europe and in the Pacific.

He spent his working years as a general surgeon in Wilkes-Barre and Long Branch, N.J. He told us that playing golf, sailing, and reading were his pastimes, giving him a change of pace when there was time.

Fred and Elizabeth Crook were married in 1942. In his retirement they lived in Florida. She predeceased him in 2001. He is survived by their four children, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. We offer them our sincere sympathy.
