Brian died peacefully Aug. 4, 2010, after a brief illness.

He had chosen all the readings, music, and hymns for his memorial service at St. Barnabas Church (Episcopal) in Greenwich, Conn., which he co-founded in the 1960s. Just two weeks prior to the service he had his son, Lachlan ’78, and Lachlan’s wife, Susan ’81, searching for sheet music for “The Orange and the Black.” Brian and his family are totally orange and black — “Loyalty be ever the same,” as the Mather Sundial has it.

Brian joined us by way of the Stony Brook (N.Y.) School. At Princeton he was in Prospect, active in Whig-Clio, majored in English, and graduated in June 1947. He went on to Harvard Law School. He was with the Wall Street law firm of Cahill Gordon from 1950 to 1968. Allied Signal had Brian’s talents as general counsel from 1968 to his retirement in 1992.

Brian loved Greenwich and participated in many civic activities. He was an avid sailor, yclept “Anchor” by his cherished grandchildren, and mourned by his dog, Skipper.

Brian is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eleanor; sons Lachlan and Derek; daughters Lisa and Katie; and four grandchildren. The class has lost a loyal friend.
