Herbert Sugerman died March 6, 2011, at Banner Hospice in Phoenix, Ariz., from complications of Parkinson’s disease.

Son of Charles Sugerman, Herb was born in Cleveland, Ohio, May 25, 1933. At Princeton, Herb majored in modern languages and the S.P.E.C. program, writing his thesis on “El Conde Duque De Olivares and the Dissolution of Spain.” As a member of a fine 1955 section at Campus Club, Herb is remembered fondly as one who made others laugh and feel good about themselves. Senior year he roomed at 113 Foulke Hall. Among other activities, Herb played 150-pound football, and at our 50th reunion he regaled many with his triumph in a passing competition against much younger rivals. He was also a member of the Spanish and International Relations clubs and spent his junior year abroad.

In later life, Herb and his brother, Marvin, ran the family business, Broadway Supply Co.

Herb was predeceased by his sister Phyllis. In addition to Marvin, he is survived by his children, Fran, Lyn, and Sara; granddaughter Sasha; and his wife, Arlene. To his survivors and to those outside his immediate family to whom he meant so much, the class extends condolences and thanks for a life well-lived.
