Ellery was born Sept. 24, 1929, in Little Rock, Ark., the son of E.C. Gay and Lillian Hinson Gay.  

He came to Princeton from Little Rock High School, majored in biology, belonged to Cloister Inn, and was president of the Premed Society. He roomed with Cal Ledbetter, John Bradley, and Bill Robinson.  

In 1955 he graduated from Tulane School of Medicine, interned at Brooke Army Hospital in San Antonio, and then served for two years in the Air Force with the rank of captain.

Ellery went into general practice with his father in 1958 and later returned to Tulane for a three-year residency in otolaryngology and cosmetic surgery. By 1980 he had decided to concentrate on cosmetic and plastic surgery and continued in that practice until 2002.

Doris Carre and Ellery were married in 1953, and raised a family of four in Little Rock. She died in 1990. In 1993 he married Barbara Harrison, with Bill Robinson officiating.  

Ellery died of cancer March 14, 2010, in Little Rock. Barbara survives him together with his children Pamela, Ellery Clarke III, C. Marbury (“Marca”) ’84, and Nathan; nine grandchildren; and his brother, Robert. Cal Ledbetter and Grady Miller represented the class at his funeral.
