Mike Rives died April 14, 2011, in Boston after a long illness. He was a son of Reginald Rives 1912.

Mike attended St. George’s School in Newport, R.I. He left Princeton in 1941 for 25 months in the Marines with service at Guadalcanal and Cape Gloucester. He returned to Princeton in 1945 and graduated in 1947.

Following a Foreign Service course at George Washington University, he became a Foreign Service diplomat serving in Frankfurt, Laos, Guatemala, Paris, Brazzaville (Republic of Congo), Burundi, and Washington, D.C.

In 1981, Mike retired to Newport to enjoy art and music in particular. He also traveled extensively with the Smithsonian and National Trust to places like Egypt, the Galapagos, and China.

He enjoyed golf, tennis, riding, and swimming. Though he never made it to a reunion, he regularly kept classmates informed through the major class-reunion books.  

Mike is survived by his niece, Peach Warren, and nephews John H. and Peter Rives.
