Bob died April 18, 2010, in Costa Mesa, Calif., of Alzheimer’s disease.

He received a medical degree from Harvard in 1943 and then served in the Army Medical Corps. His tour of duty included service in the European theater. He was discharged as a captain in 1946.

Bob specialized in internal medicine with his own private practice in Costa Mesa, where he was on the board of directors of the local hospital.

In 1964 he wrote that he liked sports “with the emphasis on golf. I had to quit tennis because of asthma, a bum knee, and old age — in reverse order.” In 1989 he wrote, “When not busy practicing medicine, I’ve enjoyed family activities the most over the years.” He added, “I feel ‘young,’ but I regret ‘getting older.’ Nevertheless, my golf handicap is 14 — but I play to an honest 20.”

Bob married Gerry Grimes in 1945. They had three children, daughters Sharon and Wendy and son Jeff. To them all, the class extends its sympathy.
