Lou died Feb. 6, 2011, at his home in Paradise Valley, Ariz.

He came to Princeton from John Burroughs School in St. Louis. After Princeton, Lou received a law degree from Washington University in 1950 and enlisted in the Army’s judge advocate general (JAG) corps, with active duty in Fort Leavenworth during the Korean War. After 30 years of reserve duty, he retired as lieutenant colonel and joined his father’s insurance business in St. Louis. He became president and CEO of Insurers Service Corp. and Safety Mutual Casualty Corp.

In 1966, Lou married Sandra Mae Johnston, and they had three sons.

Lou retired in 1984 and moved to Paradise Valley. He enthusiastically contributed to the community, serving his church and many organizations devoted to education, music, sports, and health. Lou was an avid pilot, golfer, swimmer, traveler, reader, wordsmith, and football fan. A generous, understanding, loving husband and father, he greeted everyone with great warmth.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his adoring sons, E. Louis III and wife Lea, Eric Raymond and wife Rachel, and Matthew Jacob and Ashley Fisher; and his beloved grandchildren, Gibson Grace, Addisen Mae, Louis IV, and Evan Anne, who will miss him dearly.
