Norm’s Princeton career was interrupted in 1944, when he joined the Army Air Corps and served for three years as a navigator and bombardier.
Returning to Princeton, Norm graduated in ’49 and then married Hope — an event that, he told us in our 40th yearbook, was “my major accomplishment in life.” They enjoyed 50 years of married life and, over time, three children.
Norm took up investment banking in Pittsburgh and found his profession “fascinating, ever-changing, and very competitive.” He also found time to serve his church and borough council — and keep up an active sports life playing tennis, table tennis, golf, and bridge. He and Hope traveled extensively in their later years.
While lamenting the fact that our class was “war torn,” he emphasized that, under the influence of Old Nassau, he had, as he grew older, developed his sense of humor and “learned not to take things too seriously.”
Norm died March 3, 2011. We will miss him, and we send our best wishes to Hope and their family.
