Preben died Nov. 13, 2006, in Denmark.

At Princeton he worked as a waiter in Commons and played soccer.

Preben had a long and impressive career as an architect in Denmark. He designed a wide range of large-scale projects there and abroad, including institutional, commercial, and residential structures. He consulted, taught, and contributed in various ways to the architectural environment in Denmark.

Most important to Preben, as he said in the Book of Our History, was reserving time for the essential things — his wife and children and the quest for knowledge and friends. Friends in the class who visited him in Denmark included Phil and Gloria May, Mike and Annette Merle-Smith, and Lucius and Adela Wilmerding. He concluded his statement for the book with this: “The Princeton education was — and is — incomparable. I am forever in its debt.”

Preben is survived by his life companion, Elizabeth Oppenheim; three children, Flemming, Lottie, and Peter; and, according his listing in our 50th reunion book, five grandchildren. His wife, Hannah, died in 1992. Flemming related that Preben’s body was cremated wearing his Princeton T-shirt.
