Stu was born March 6, 1930, in Harrisburg, Pa. He was the son of Judge William Neely ’17 and Jean Chamberlin Neely and a grandson of John Neely 1884.

Stu prepared at Lawrenceville. At Princeton he was a politics major, active in the pre-law society and WPRU, and a member of Tiger Inn. He roomed with Ed Bauer.

Stu graduated from Harvard Law School and served for two years in the Army. Upon separation from the service he clerked for a judge in Harrisburg before joining the firm of Schnader, Harrison, Segal & Lewis in Philadelphia. Later he was a partner in Stetler & Gribbin in York, Pa., and lastly was house counsel in the Philadelphia office of Fannie Mae from 1975 until 1992.

Stu’s first wife, the former Isabel MacDonald, died in 1986. In 1995 he married Susann Freney.

Stu died Oct. 17, 2010, of heart failure, his brother, Hamlin’47, and sister Jean having predeceased him. In addition to Susann, he is survived by his children, Ann Enzman, Jane Hetherington ’87, and Donald; his brother, James ’48; four stepchildren; and 14 grandchildren.
