Bud Krafft died peacefully Oct. 29, 2011, at the age of 98. He had lived in Seattle for many years.

After graduating with a degree in engineering and a strong interest in flight and sailing, Bud eventually joined the Boeing Co. in 1941. During the war years he was involved with building B-17s for the Army and spent a year with the 8th Air Force in Europe. He retired in 1978 as manager of planning and control for Boeing Aerospace Co.

Although Bud met many famous people during his career with Boeing — among them Charles Lindbergh, Jimmy Doolittle, and Wernher von Braun — he reported in our 50th yearbook in 1984 that “it was not as rewarding as the friendships with classmates and a host of others I have been privileged to know in the shortest 50 years I will ever see.”

Bud was predeceased by his wife, Josephine (“Jo”) Wing, whom he married in 1947. He is survived by his children, Charles, Chapin, and Josephine, and three grandchildren.
