Greg Smith died June 25, 2011, in Florida. He was 49.

Greg was born to Leroy and Annie Smith. He graduated from All Saints Cathedral School in the Virgin Islands, where he was valedictorian of the class of 1979. He was the first Presidential Scholar from the U.S. Virgin Islands, one of the nation’s highest honors for high-school students.

At Princeton, Greg majored in mechanical and aerospace engineering and was a member of the Princeton chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers. After graduation, he moved to Florida, where he lived for the rest of his life.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Romona; his brothers and sisters, LeRoy, Diana, Marguerite, Jeffrey, Gary, and Juel; three uncles; three aunts; 11 nieces; three nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Classmates remember Greg as a person with great intelligence and compassion, an always-calm demeanor, utmost respect for the individual, and the highest character.
