Austin Hunter died Nov. 27, 2013.

He entered Princeton from The Hill School, following in the footsteps of his father, Gale Hunter 1914. He joined Cap and Gown and played on Harry Mahnken’s undefeated 150-pound football team and rowed on the 150-pound crew. He saw combat with the First Army in France, Germany, and Austria and received the Bronze Star.

Austin married the former Barbara Way in 1953, and they lived in New York City during their half-century of double careers. Austin was in sales and travel and supported Barbara in her public-relations business. Retirement for the last decade of Austin’s life was in Walpole, N.H., although he maintained a home on Fire Island, N.Y., where he served his church and the Point O’ Woods Volunteer Fire Department. He pursued his lifelong passion for fishing to the end.

In addition to Barbara, Austin is survived by his daughters, Kimberley Hunter and Victoria Gohl; four grandchildren; and his sisters, Elizabeth Walker and Joan Altreuter. The class expresses its sympathy to the family.
