John died April 26, 2014.

John was born in Philadelphia to Marion Zinderstein and John B. Jessup. His grandfather, Henry Winans Jessup, was in the Class of 1886. He prepared at Middlesex School, where he belonged to the Glee Club and was a National Merit Scholar.

At Princeton, he was a classics major, belonged to Terrace, and sang in the Glee Club. John roomed with Dick Henderson, graduated magna cum laude, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

John married Dorothy Ball in 1953. He went into banking, working for First Pennsylvania Banking & Trust in Philadelphia for 11 years. In 1965 he moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland as partner/Realtor with J.E. Ball Associates, a family firm, and worked there for 12 years. He then returned to banking and worked for Loyola Federal Savings and Loan until he retired in 1992.

John always enjoyed singing and was a member of his Presbyterian Church choir for almost 50 years. He and Dorothy lived in St. Michaels, Md., for many years.

He is survived by his daughter, Lisbeth Jordan; son Norton; two grandchildren; and his sister, Nancy Wells. Dorothy predeceased him.
