Roger was a lifelong resident of Metuchen, N.J., and graduated from Metuchen High School, where he became an Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow. He entered Princeton with a Naval ROTC scholarship and majored in public affairs in the Woodrow Wilson School. He was a member of Dial Lodge, Whig-Clio, and the NROTC drill team. After graduation he became a commissioned officer in the Navy for three years and then worked as a marketing and advertising executive.

Roger served his community on the board of education, racial-relations council, and the regional Girl Scout council, and was active in local Democratic politics. He produced several children’s board games and was an award-winning actor in amateur theater. He loved music, history, stamp collecting, and entertaining children at the YMCA. He was a nationally known collector of antique dime-store soldiers and toys. Despite failing health, he was able to attend our 50th reunion.

The class extends sympathy to his wife of 54 years, Marilyn; daughters Marcia Johnson and Christina Swaak; granddaughters Taylor and Kiersten; and grandson Garrett.
