J. Tufton Mason Jr. ’36

AT 78, "TUFFY" DIED Sept. 20, 1993. After graduating from Montclair (N.J.) Academy, he majored in biology and was a member of Key and Seal at Princeton. He graduated in 1940 from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons.

In WWII, he served four years in the army medical corps. After 20 months in the Pacific theater, he was discharged in 1946 as a captain.

He practiced medicine in Cedar Grove, N.J., for 40 years and was a member of several professional societies. He especially devoted his skills to his community, serving 14 years as president of the Cedar Grove Board of Health, 40 years as school physician, and 20 years as town physician. He also was a past president of his Rotary Club and a charter member and elder of the United Presbyterian Church. He and his wife, Winifred, moved to Bricktown, N.J., in 1981.

He is survived by his widow, Winifred, whom he married in 1942; a son, John T 111; daughters Carol M. Blauvelt, Jacque M. Miscavage, Wendy M. Wilson, Barbara Ann Samuelson, and Robin Lee; 13 grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren.

Here was a man dedicated to family, church, and profession. He will also be remembered as a loyal Princetonian and classmate.
