Congratulations to Professor Sean Wilentz for his work to revive our knowledge and understanding of an American historian whose insights and talents are woefully needed today, even and especially at Princeton. Hofstadter would know how to evaluate Trump and those who supported and support him; he would show no surprise, nor would he feel it necessary to flatter the lower orders and their wealthy manipulators. Hamilton was correct in saying “when the pot boils the scum will rise,” but someone has to turn the stove on, after all.
