I am very much not at home with conservatives for one important reason. I believe, with a British historian, Andrew Roberts, who wrote George III, The Last King Of America, that the revolution against Britain was evil. Some 25 or so complaints in Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence about George III were lies and exaggerations. The revolutionaries were anti-British for their own selfish social and economic reasons, not because British rule was oppressive. I exempt only one military fighter from Europe from my condemnation, Kazimierz Pulaski, a hero who died fighting the Brits in the battle of Savannah where I live. Pulaski probably came to America because his parish priest at his baptism discovered he was, as we say today, intersex. He would have had more trouble than he needed in his Poland which was in political and moral debasement. He could fight and die in America for what seemed a good cause with his maladjustments revealed.
