Bud died peacefully Oct. 2, 2016, of natural causes at his home in Indian Hill, Ohio. He was a graduate of the Lawrenceville School, where he was on the publications board and participated in crew, soccer, and baseball.

At Princeton Bud majored in history and graduated with honors. He was a member of both the freshman and varsity 150-pound crews. Bud was a member of the staff of the Princeton Tiger, the band, Triangle Club, and Charter Club.

Bud’s military career was highlighted by his service in the field artillery in Gen. George Patton’s Third Army.

Bud then became a pioneer in television broadcasting when he obtained a license for the first TV station in West Virginia. In 1959 he was hired as vice president and COO of Taft Broadcasting, and starting in 1962 he served as president for 14 years. He resigned in 1986 to operate his own TV station in Orlando, Fla. Bud gave a great account of this exploit in his book, Orlando Shoot-Out.

He is survived by six children, 15 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
