In Response to: Speak Freely! [6]

Diversity needs to start with the proper recruitment of faculty in the non-scientific areas of study. For all too long universities have recruited people for ideological reasons which are hidden but real. I have experiences with 38 years at a University of California department concerning departmental recruitment which would make your head spin and your heart stop.

Example: One faculty member rejected a person of a certain nationality because he believed this nationality could not objectively teach in a certain sub-field. The rejected person threatened to sue; suddenly many members of the department claimed, semi-fictitiously, that they shared ethnicity with the rejected candidate. Never had so much bigotry been supported by so many liars and cheats! And all with Ph.D.s from superior universities.
