FRANK WATERMAN, former head of Waterman Pen Corp., died at his home in Greenwich, Conn., on Oct. 7, 1989. Frank, who was 85, had the misfortune of a fall in July, resulting in a fractured right hip. A long recovery seemed to be going well until unexpected complications set in. Death came suddenly but peacefully. We are further saddened to record that Mary Shelley Waterman, whom Frank married in 1930, died on Nov. 20, 1989.

Frank came to Princeton from Lawrenceville with his inseparable friend and roommate, Lew Lawton. Together they joined Arbor Inn, of which Frank was later treasurer. Following graduation Frank started at the bottom of L. E. Waterman Co., and in 1938, on the death of his father, became president and chairman of the then-Waterman Pen Corp. He guided its affairs until 1958, when he retired and the business was sold to BIC Corp. Frank was a loyal supporter of Princeton and had a number of other outside interests. He and Mary enjoyed travel and, over the years, visited every country in Europe. He was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Greenwich; a former director of the Easter Seal Rehabilitation Center in Stamford, Conn.; and a former president of the Retired Men's Assoc. of Greenwich.

Frank and Mary are survived by their two daughters, Anne Sykes of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., and Mary Weaving of Branford, Conn., and by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. We mourn the loss of Frank and Mary and our sympathy goes out to their family.
