During late summer of '52 or '53, I stopped off to visit Bill in his hometown of Turtle Creek, Pa. He showed me their high school football field, made famous by, among others, a former Notre Dame end, Leon Hart. Bill explained the home team's advantage was always to elect to defend the uphill end zone. So much for western Pennsylvania coal mine towns. (With Bill, I was a member of the frosh, JV, and varsity football teams.)
