Win died July 25, 2018, in Palo Alto, Calif., shortly after attending our 60th reunion. He was 81.

He came to Princeton from the Lawrenceville School, where he was active on the school newspaper and the cross-country team. At Princeton he majored in history. He was a radio announcer for WPRB, did publicity for Triangle Club, and was an editor for the Nassau Herald. He was also a member of the Flying Club. He joined Terrace Club and was active in interclub sports. He roomed with Ben Whitaker, Howie Zeft, and Tom Thornbury.

He attended law school at Stanford University, where he met and married Barbara Bachman. After an extension to serve in the Army, he graduated and joined a law firm in San Francisco, and Barbara worked for the Chronicle and the Examiner. When they started a family, they moved to Palo Alto and Win continued his law practice.

Win was an avid Chicago White Sox fan, and after suffering decades of watching on-field incompetence and near misses, he was thrilled to see his beloved White Sox finally win the World Series in 2005. The San Francisco Giants’ three World Series victories over the next decade also brought him much joy, and he delighted in using sports as a way to connect with people throughout his life.

Win was predeceased by Barbara, his wife of 53 years. He is survived by his daughter, Laura Whitaker ’92; his son, Andrew Foster; two granddaughters, Tomiko and Lily Foster; his sister; and his sisters-in-law. The class extends its deepest sympathy to them all.
