Rick joined us from Haverford High School in suburban Philadelphia. At Princeton he entered Army ROTC, fenced for two years, and joined Cannon Club (and its Rockefeller suite annex). He majored in European history in the Woodrow Wilson School.

He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and served his two years in the Army. He then joined Bankers Trust Co. in its international division and worked for 15 years in New York, Bangkok, Hong Kong, and Panama. In 1984 Rick moved to the risk-management group in New York. There he was involved in the bank’s pioneering efforts in the development of new financial products and its securities-trading and investment-banking activities. He retired as a managing director of Bankers Trust in 1999.

Rick met and married his wife, Beth, during his Army days. Their two sons were born in Hong Kong and Panama. His sons, Beth, and their four grandchildren were his principal retirement pleasure. Others included: the stock market, the Episcopal Church, politics, landscaping and gardening, golf, and some writing initiatives concerning the U.S.’s “futile foreign wars.” His piece on Afghanistan was published on the Small Wars Journal website.

Rick is survived by his wife, two sons, and four grandchildren.
