Born in Detroit, Dick graduated from Chatham (N.J.) High School in 1942 and enrolled at Princeton, playing both JV soccer and basketball.

Enlisting in 1943, he graduated from Columbia’s Midshipman’s School and was assigned to the Pacific Fleet, serving in combat and occupation duty until 1946. Returning to Princeton, he enjoyed senior year at Tower Club, graduating with honors in economics in 1947.

Dick’s career began at F.W. Woolworth in New England. He moved back to live in Chatham and went to work for Hearst Publishing in New York City and subsequently the AMA. He married Charlotte Kenney in 1955.

In 1963, they bought the Four Winds Motel in Manchester, Vt., and relocated. Dick served on the board of the Vermont Hotel Motel Restaurant Association and rallied support from the association to pass Vermont’s landmark ban of highway billboards. A lifelong golfer, Dick and a few friends built the Manchester Country Club, and he served as its first president. He also served as director and chairman of the local bank and as trustee of the local high school. Dick sold the motel in 1978 and opened Bee’s Hallmark Shop in Manchester.

Dick sold the shop and retired in 1995. With Charlotte he enjoyed many years golfing, traveling, and spending time with their sons and families. Named trustee of the Sarah deCoizart Charitable Trust, Dick worked until his death securing funding for many New England schools and not-for-profit organizations.

Dick was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte, and sister, Jane Keely. He is survived by son Greg and his wife, Cally, and their children, Justin and Ethan; and son Eric ’82 and his wife, Janice, and their children, Eric Jr. ’15 and Sarah.
