He came to Princeton from Sewanee, Tenn., with a soft Southern accent and winning graciousness. On campus he was a recognized athlete (touch football speedster and wrestling letterman at 123 pounds), worked as a Commons captain, served as sports editor of The Daily Princetonian, and majored in sociology.

John married Anna in 1973 and homesteaded in British Columbia for seven years. Through study and lifestyle practice, he transitioned to a career in holistic health, incorporating ancient Eastern understanding of nature and modern Western psychological ideas.

John and Anna moved to Boulder in 1991. They founded and operated a vocational school that provides continuing education in alternative health. John also had a private therapy practice and authored three books on alternative health, touching many lives with his guiding words: “We are here to learn and grow, overcoming obstacles of all kinds to become wiser, kinder, more coherent, and more capable of giving and receiving love.”

The John Chitty Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to provide scholarship aid to students in the Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy Practitioner program at the Colorado School of Energy Studies.

John is survived by his wife, Anna ’72; son Haley; daughter Elizabeth; grandsons Emerson and Azul; extended family; and his many friends. The class extends its deepest condolences to them all.
