A. Henry Schilling, who had been managing director of General Electric’s Energy Financial Services in Stamford, Conn., died peacefully Oct. 24, 2019, at age 75.

Schilling graduated from Harvard in 1967. After teaching in public schools and doing political organizing, he attended Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School and earned an MPA degree in 1971. He also earned a law degree from Rutgers and served as director of admission at the Wilson School before moving to Boston in 1973 to work on transportation, urban development, and environmental law for Boston Central Transportation Planning.

Not long after, he joined the Battelle Institute Science and Government Study Center in Seattle, Wash., and became director. After nine years in Seattle, he moved to Washington, D.C., to head Battelle’s office there. He then served for six years as head of the EPA’s Office of Legislative Analysis and Pollution Prevention and Planning. He also taught environmental policy at American University.

In 1991 Schilling became managing director of GE Energy Financial Services. He focused on risk management and environmental due diligence for power projects in North America, South and East Asia, Central and South America, and Africa. He retired in 2014.

Schilling is survived by his wife, Victoria; one son; one stepson; and three grandchildren.
