Ted was born in New Brighton, Pa., and came to Princeton from Valley Forge Military Academy. He majored in biology and wrote his thesis on “The Problem of Cyclopia.” Ted joined Tiger Inn and was the center on the varsity football teams of 1951 and 1952.

He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School and began his medical career at Geisinger Medical Center before spending two years in the Army taking care of paratroopers at Fort Bragg. Returning to the Pittsburgh area, Ted began the practice of orthopedic surgery, which he continued until his retirement in 1998. He served as a clinical professor of orthopedics at the University of Pittsburgh for many years and was given the Golden Apple Award in 1986 as the best teacher in the department.

Ted’s wife, Nancy, died in 2010, after 54 years of marriage. Dolores Riddle, whom he married in 2013, survives him, as do his nine children, 35 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
