Dan, an expert in computer law with a knack for mechanical things, died Aug. 2, 2020, at home in Burke, Va. He had a determined work ethic, a kind and optimistic heart, and a generous spirit.

He entered Princeton from Chappaqua, N.Y., studied engineering and physics, dined at Cloister Inn, and was a football manager, technical director for the Savoyards, and a research assistant at the computer center.

Dan went to Stanford for a master’s degree in electrical engineering and a law degree. He joined the New York law firm of Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft and eventually became a partner in its DC office. Later he started his own company, Computer Law Advisers, and helped found the Computer Law Association, now ITechLaw.

Dan was a lifelong putterer and tinkerer who could build and repair machines from boat engines to motherboards. In the 1990s he sent a few young people to college with computers he built. His interests were wide: the Washington Capitals, music, classic movies, entertaining friends, and summers at his family’s property on Androscoggin Lake in Maine.

Dan is survived by his sons, Daniel T. Jr. and Andrei M.; grandson Liam; his former wife, Barbara; brother Byron ’65; sister Lynda Crowley; four nephews; and a niece.
