Tom died Aug. 5, 2021, of natural causes in his home. He will be greatly missed by his partner, Kathleen Lordi; children Elizabeth, Ellie, and Nathan, and their mother Nancy Rix; and siblings Judah, Mathias, and Maram ’83 *92. 

Born and raised in Toronto, Tom came to the United States to attend Princeton. He majored in medieval studies and belonged to Cloister Inn and Ivy Club. His roommates included Dave Danar, Paul Fishman, Dirk Giseburt, Ali Mirvali, and Ben Rauch. Tom treasured his Princeton years and the friendships he made there. He worked assiduously and generously on ’78’s reunions. His name and the University are linked in his Princeton Trivia/Quiz Book, a 1977 paperback that earned Tom an interview on The Today Show.

His vast erudition and quick recall made him a formidable trivia opponent. Having launched his career at Oakwood Collegiate, where he played on the school’s Reach for the Top quiz team, Tom appeared on Jeopardy! in 1994. 

After graduating from Princeton Tom entered the Bankers Trust Co. training program, rising quickly to the rank of vice president. For the bulk of his career, he enjoyed success as a private investor. He was an avid collector of books and Princetoniana.

Tom made friends easily and remained fiercely loyal to them. His wit was irreverent but never cruel; his instinct for le mot juste was unerring. Yet Tom was a good listener and a source of wise counsel when the occasion demanded. His generosity was boundless. It was characteristic of Tom’s approach to life that he wore loafers without socks, regardless of how casual or formal the attire. However, formal events always found him appropriately dressed in his 25th-reunion blazer.
