Spence Franck died Oct. 23, 2009, at the age of 64.

Spence was born in New York City. He graduated from the McBurney School, where he was a four-year member of the fencing team and editor of the school newspaper. At Princeton he majored in electrical engineering. He was a member of Terrace Club and Whig-Clio and managed both the hockey and baseball teams. He roomed with Larry Cook, Paul Mitchell, Jim Green, Dial Parrott, Jordan Taylor, and Wayne Brown.

After Princeton, Spence graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He then joined the Philadelphia law firm of Saul Ewing, became a partner, and chaired the firm’s business-law department for a number of years. He was on the board of the local Red Cross chapter, taught Sunday school at St. David’s Episcopal Church, and belonged to the Philadelphia Club, the Racquet Club, and the Athenaeum.

Spence is survived by his wife, Peggy Miller Franck; his son and daughter, Christopher and Kelly; and his mother and sister. The class extends its sympathy to them.
