Born in Baltimore, Harry came to us from the Gilman School there. At Princeton, he majored in politics and joined Colonial, where he was active in IAA sports. He was executive editor of the Bric-a-Brac and active in Whig-Clio. He earned an LL.B. at the University of Virginia Law School in 1963.

Harry practiced law in Baltimore before becoming Maryland deputy attorney general, in 1971. Returning to private life, he joined Piper and Marbury in Baltimore, where he was a partner until retirement in 2019. He became a scholar of the U.S. Supreme Court, trying four cases there, the first at age 30.

Harry and his wife, Sarah, were outdoor enthusiasts, skiing in the West and hiking/trekking everywhere: Yosemite, New England, Mount Princeton, Tibet, and Bhutan. Harry was also a keen birdwatcher, traveling to the ends of the Earth in pursuit.

He was committed to many Baltimore institutions, especially to the development of the H.L. Mencken Society and restoration of Mencken’s home. He was the class liaison to the Daniel Sachs Scholarship and participated in the scholar selection process for many years.

Harry died Jan. 30, 2023. He is survived by Sarah, daughter Hannah, and two grandchildren. Our condolences to the whole family.
