Nan died Oct. 8, 2022, of biliary cancer in Concord, Mass.

She arrived on campus  from Garden City, N.Y.,  and joined the Band, where  she met future husband Carl Stutz ’76, who served as manager. Freshman year, Nan took up the glockenspiel to spend more time with Carl while playing in the Band at basketball games.

Carl recalls that he “had never seen such a thoughtful person.” They went on to marry and adopted their daughter, Mariel, from Vietnam. 

Nan sang alto in the Glee Club and joined Cloister Inn. She majored in English and went on to earn an M.Ed. from Harvard. She created educational programs for the Philadelphia and Worcester museums of art, before pivoting into retail. Nan enriched many lives during her long retail career, retiring from TJX as SEVP for HomeGoods and TJX Canada.

Roommates Linda Eastman Field and Leslie Ambrose vividly recall Nan’s playful spirit and infectious sense of humor. Despite her tremendous confidence, she never took herself too seriously. Classmate PC Pitts, her maid of honor, remembers her as “thoughtful and down-to-earth,” with a wry wit.

The class extends heartfelt condolences to Carl, daughter Mariel, and Nan’s family and classmates.
