From 2001–04 — the three years before the policy change — faculty awarded A’s to 47.0 percent of students.

Departments in the natural sciences and social sciences have continued to be the toughest graders, giving A’s to 36 percent and 37.6 percent of students, respectively, in the last three academic years. Engineering (41.2 percent) and the humanities (43.5 percent) each moved closer to Princeton’s 35 percent target for A’s in undergraduate courses.
