Doug died Aug. 20, 2010, at Mountain Air Country Club in Burnsville, N.C., of a heart attack brought on by a massive blood clot. His primary residence had been in Baton Rouge for many years.

Doug was born in Penn Yan, N.Y., son of the late Keith Barden and his wife Janet, and came to us from Lawrenceville. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics and took his meals at Tower, but most who knew him recognized his major as golf. He was known as one of the best linksmen in our class and played for the University. He won club championships at Wilmington Country Club and Fishers Island Country Club and often played in pro-am tournments, having a photographic memory for his rounds.

He was a volunteer at USGA events and held memberships at Vickmead Hunt Club, Baltusrol, Sherwood Forest Country Club, and the Country Club of Louisiana.

He spent seven years on Wall Street working for Laird, Bissell & Mead and White & Co.

Doug is survived by his wife, Joycelyn; sons Willis, Watts, and Keith; three grandchildren; stepdaughter Nicole Breaux and her husband, John; and stepson Brent Bello. On the loss of one of our premier sportsmen, the class sends condolences to his family for their sudden and painful loss.
