The class lost a nationally recognized religious and academic leader when Guy died July 15, 2011, from complications of diabetes.

Guy entered Princeton with the Class of 1965 as a University scholar, having graduated from Woodlawn High School, in Birming-
ham, Ala., where he was an academic and athletic star. After his sophomore year, he took a year off to explore Europe. Upon returning, he joined our class, chose history as his major, and joined Colonial Club, Whig-Clio, and the Nassau Lit. After graduation, Guy remained at the University, entering the doctoral program in history. Early in his graduate studies he was chosen as a Marshall scholar and studied at Oxford before receiving his doctorate from Princeton in 1976.

Guy’s academic career included teaching stints at Catholic University, the University of Texas, Church Divinity School of the Pacific, Graduate Theological Union, the University of California, and finally, the Uni-
versity of the South, where he served as professor, dean, and dean emeritus of its school of theology. Along the way he answered a call to the ministry, becoming an Episcopal priest. Guy’s scholarly publications combined his passions for history and religion.

The class extends its sympathy to Guy’s family, including his wife, Maria; daughters, Elizabeth, Ashley, and Jessica; and his brother, Stewart ’71.
