Archivists titled this photograph simply “happy grads with leis.” They also provided the date it was taken: June 3, 1997, ­Princeton’s 250th Commencement. The ­University conferred degrees on 601 ­undergraduate men and 485 women that year, and awarded 606 advanced degrees. Fred ­Hargadon, then dean of admission, ­addressed grads at Class Day, and Sen.
