I was surprised and disappointed that the “Lives Lived and Lost” articles did not note the death of Frank C. Carlucci ’52. After service in the Navy and Harvard Business School, he joined the Foreign Service, working for the State Department for 13 years. He then served as undersecretary of HEW, ambassador to Portugal, deputy director of the CIA, and deputy secretary of defense. Carlucci served as secretary of defense from 1987 to 1989. He later had an outstanding career in business. Few Princetonians have served their country as long and as well as Frank Carlucci.
