I’m Ralph Ravestijn, a Dutch genealogist. In 2019 I published a monograph on Francis Ord Marshall (1810 London, 1870 Japara, Java).
Francis Ord and Howdy’s great-grandfather Henry Marshall (1821 Mauritius, who married Mary Charlotte Ainslie at Calcutta in 1854) were second cousins. Both descend from two brothers, Dr. William Marshall (1738, Totnes) and Rev. John Marshall (Exeter Free Grammar headmaster), sons of William Marshall (baptised 4 May 1676, Poundstock, Cornwall).
Your direct Marshall paternal line traces continuously to Cornwall, 1676.
I’d be glad to share the 2019 monograph and the broader family research with anyone interested.
