On Speech and Scholarship

If one is going to criticize PAW for not using the word “genocide” in the context of the Israeli war with Hamas, one might first learn what the consensus definition of the word is. It clearly doesn’t apply, and PAW is correct in its decision not to use it. As to Professor Padilla Peralta, he is free to speak about his political beliefs. But those beliefs have nothing to do with his scholarship in the classics.
