Clarence D. Long *38

Clarence D. Long, a member of Congress from Baltimore for 22 years, died Sept. 18, 1994. He was 85. First elected in 1962, Rep. Long helped shape foreign policy as a chairman of key congressional subcommittees. Prior to his congressional service, he was a professor at Johns Hopkins. He got his bachelor's from Washington and Jefferson College, and got his Ph.D. at Princeton in economics. Rep. Long's first wife, Susanna, died in 1985; he remarried in 1987. He is survived by his widow, Patricia; son Clarence D. II; daughter Susanna Liberty; step­sons Kenneth D. and Ronald B. Brantley; seven grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren. We extend our condolences to the family of this distinguished public servant.
