He received his Ph.D. from Columbia University in English literature. His published works included books on fiction and poetry. Stepping Out, among his other work, was recognized for its poetry.

As a guest, he was a supreme conversationalist known for his intelligence and encyclopedic wit.  

Bob is survived by his wife, Lenore; stepson Don; and step-grandchildren. The class extends sympathy to his friends and family.
