The Alcoholic

(Vertigo DC Comics) This graphic novel tells the story of Jonathan Ames’s alter ego, Jonathan A., an alcoholic, hopelessly romantic, sexually confused novelist. The story follows Jonathan A. from his binge drinking in high school into his career as a writer of detective fiction and describes his sexual coming of age, doing drugs, the death of his parents, and falling in and out of love. Ames is the author of other novels, including What’s Not to Love? and The Extra Man, and numerous essays. This is his first graphic novel. Haspiel is the creator of Billy Dogma and the webcomix collective ACT-I-VATE.
