PETER WAS killed on the evening of Oct. 24, 1989, in St. Louis. He was shot in the back after a robbery attempt. He was accosted as he walked toward his car, parked on a side street near a shop where he had just bought a book. The police have arrested three men in connection with the shooting.

Peter, who went to the Hotchkiss School, entered Princeton with the Class of 1976. After breaking his foot during a hockey game against West Point, he took a semester off and joined our Class in our sophomore year. He majored in history and was a member of Cap and Gown. Peter was awarded his varsity letter as a sophomore for his fine performance as a forward, and later, as left wing on the hockey team.

After graduation, he earned an M.B.A. from Washington Univ. He organized a portfolio club there, and worked closely with the dean. He moved to N.Y.C. and was an analyst for Citicorp for five years. He edited a market newsletter and was a research analyst at Laidlaw, Adams & Peck before joining J. P. Maguire Investments, a St. Louis financial counseling firm headed by his father, John P. Maguire '41. As V.P. for portfolio management, Peter studied the technical side of the market and based many of his investment decisions on computer models and market timing indicators that he had refined.

A scholarship fund in his memory has been set up at the John M. Olin Graduate School of Business at Washington Univ. In addition to his father, he is survived by his mother, Mary-Emily Maguire, and his sister, Joan Guilford '81. The Class extends its sympathy.
