In the early 1950s, a freshman chose a room with different costs. Some rooms came with maid service. As I was being interviewed for the Larkin scholarship, one Princeton interviewer said to another, “See, I told you the dorm you’re in doesn’t make much difference in the friends you make.” Before 1954 graduated, the maids and “low-rent” areas were gone.
