Robert N. Weiner ’74, a former president of the District of Columbia Bar Foundation, enjoys the opportunity to take part in professional groups that explore major issues in the legal system. When working with other top lawyers, he said, “you meet a lot of very able and interesting people.”
Weiner, a partner at Arnold & Porter LLP, serves in the American Bar Association House of Delegates, the association’s policy-making body. At the national group’s next meeting, one of the able and interesting people joining him will be his daughter, Courtney Weiner ’01, who specializes in business litigation with an international focus at Lewis Baach PLLC. She was elected as a D.C. delegate in late May. The Weiners are believed to be the first father-daughter pair to represent the D.C. Bar.
Courtney said that her father’s work played a role in her choice to pursue a career in the law. “He pursues work that he finds intellectually challenging and personally fulfilling,” she said. “He takes very seriously the obligation for lawyers to work for the public good.”
Robert recently returned to private practice after working as an associate deputy attorney general in the U.S. Department of Justice, overseeing the government’s successful defense of the Affordable Care Act. The project, he said, was “the case of a lifetime.”
